Regular Waste Removal Services

For residents of Pere Marquette Township, trash collection fees are included in property taxes. Here’s how it works:

WHO? Residential collection is contracted through Allied (formerly "Shoreline") Waste of Manistee. At this time, the Township does not provide waste collection services for businesses.

WHAT? Each household is allowed three 30-gallon bags per week without additional cost.  If you have more than the three-bag limit, you can purchase "extra bag tags" at the Township hall for $1.50 each. Attach them to your bags, and they will all be taken. If you have bulky items like carpeting or a mattress, you must buy a "Bulky Item Tag" and attach it to the item. These are $3 each, and also available at the Townhall.

A recycling bin is also included for your use, and recycling will be collected the same day as trash (though maybe not by the same truck).   Click for a list of Recyclable Items that are allowed.

Allied will accept old appliances. These require a pickup tag, which costs $40 for a freon appliance and $15 for a non-freon appliance. These fees are discounted during the Spring Clean up – see the section below. Call Allied in advance of pickup day so they can make arrangements for the appliance.

WHEN? Throughout the Township, Monday is collection day for both trash collection and for recycling. If Monday is a holiday, then collection will be Tuesday. While both services are done on Monday, the recycling is done with a different truck, so don’t despair if your trash is collected and the driver leaves the recycling. Another truck should be around for it before the end of the day.

Spring Clean-up Day – Every spring – usually on the second Saturday in May. Residents may put out all kinds of stuff and have it picked up in this once-a-year special clean up. Please see the ads in the Ludington Daily News, or posted at the Townhall for items Allied will not accept, and for those which require purchase of a special pickup tag. General guidelines are available by clicking the Spring Clean-up link.

Christmas Trees – Another annual bonus for Township residents is the disposal of Christmas trees. During the month of January, Allied will collect discarded trees from residences. Just set the tree out with your regular trash on Mondays, and keep the tree free of heavy snow build up. Drivers will collect the tree and dispose of it for you.

WHERE? Curbside! Just be sure your trash and recycling is out by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.

If you have any questions or problems, please call the Township offices at 231/845-1277.
